Creating Your First Content Plan in RankUp
If you’re just getting started with RankUp, one of the best ways to see value quickly is by building a content plan. A content plan helps you organize high-priority topics and generate ready-to-use content briefs that guide your writing process.
This guide will walk you through how to:
Identify your highest-priority topics
Move them into a content plan
Generate content briefs from your plan
Step 1 - Explore Keyword Clusters
Start by navigating to the Keyword Clusters page. Here, RankUp groups related keywords together so you can explore keywords that share a common search intent or topic.
When you open a cluster, you’ll see a table with data for each keyword, including:
Search volume trends: How interest in the keyword is changing over time
Keyword difficulty: How competitive it is to rank for the keyword
Secondary keywords: Additional phrases related to the main keyword
Relevance: How closely the keyword aligns with your business or niche
Awareness stage: Which stage of the customer journey this keyword belongs to:
Unaware: Customers don’t yet know they have a problem
Problem Aware: Customers know the problem but not the solutions
Solution Aware: Customers know possible solutions but not specific providers
Product Aware: Customers know about products/services like yours and are comparing options
Priority score: A score (from 0–100) combining all these factors to help you focus on the best opportunities

Step 2 - Use the Priority Score to Choose Topics
For new users, the Priority Score is your best starting point.
A higher score means the keyword is more strategically important (good balance of relevance, search demand, and commercial value).
You can sort the Priority column from highest to lowest to quickly see which topics RankUp recommends tackling first.

Step 3 - Move Topics Into a Content Plan
Once you’ve identified the topics you want to start with:
Select a keyword (or multi-select several).
Click “Move to Content Plan” at the top of the page. This is a shortlist of keywords you’ve already decided are worth creating content for.
Give your new plan a name, for example, “September Content Plan”, “Q4 SEO Topics”, or “Problem-Aware Plan.”
You now have your first content plan set up.

Step 4 - Generate Content Briefs
Next, head over to your Content Plan page. You’ll see the groups you’ve created.
Select one or more keywords within a group.
Click “Generate Content Briefs” at the top.
RankUp will take a few minutes to create them.
Once ready, you’ll find all briefs neatly listed in your Content Briefs page. Each brief includes recommended headers, competitor insights, and guidance to help you, your writers, or the Writer Agent create high-quality, SEO-focused content.

💡 Tip: Alternatively, you can generate content briefs for keywords directly from the Keyword Clusters page.
From here, you can continue refining your plan, adding new topics, and generating briefs as your content strategy grows.
